Our Purpose
At the beginning of the Fall of 2012, German language students at Pasadena City College organized themselves into a group of interested, and enthusiastic members of the Germania Culture Club. The Germania Culture Club was voted as an official student club by the Inter-Club Council of the Pasadena City College on January 2012. With this formal acknowledgement, the Germania Culture Club joins PCC's long standing tradition of college clubs and organizations since the late 1920's, when also the Deutscher Verein (German Club) was first established (Dodge, 2002).
It is the intention of the Germania Culture Club to not only focus on German culture, but to foster enthusiasm for all German speaking cultures. For that reason, the adoption of the term Germania, which was first recorded by the Roman senator and historian Tacitus in his work The Germania (Latin: De origine et situ Germanorum) a description of the Germanic tribe's land, laws, and cultures (Geary,1988). Consequently, the term Germania will comprise all the German speaking cultures and histories of Austria, Germany, Lichtenstein, and Switzerland.
The objective of the club is to invite German majors and any Pasadena City College student interested in social and scholastic activities that intensify the appreciation for the varied German speaking cultures. Lastly, the Germania Culture Club strongly believes in organizing campus-wide academic, social activities, which strengthen PCC student's appreciation for multicultural awareness and discovery.
